The Strand is one of Queensland's best kept secrets! Some visitors travel along the Bruce Highway through Townsville and miss out on a top spot to stay and enjoy. We enjoyed the C Bar, Coffee Club and Juliet's. Great place for families to stay - plenty for kids with the water park and pool, as well as room to ride bikes etc.
We were there for #CYA2017 Conference (where I shortlisted for YA and MG). Fabulous conference with a huge program of writing and publishing professionals. Must do if you are there in July and have a passion for all things writing. Checked out 'What's On' in Brisbane and visited the Gladiator Show at the Museum, it was good (the museum was better - and free). Saw 'The Woman in Black' at the Brisbane Theatre. A scary, entertaining play that is well worth a look. Visited an interactive and futuristic digital/robotic program at the Queensland State Library (another freebie well worth doing and hugely entertaining). Had a lovely breakfast at Olio. Enjoyed the sun on the river at Southbank, and that was just in 24 hours!
We actually live in the outer suburbs of Brisbane and have travelled overseas, but we find nothing can beat Brisbane for a peaceful and enjoyable mini-holiday. There is plenty to do around Brisbane - even on a tight budget [think City Hopper ferries/buses, lovely walks, cinema, good range of dining options]. We love walking along Southbank and through the Botanic Gardens. Also enjoyed the ferry ride to beautiful University of Queensland, and the night time view from the Wheel. Loved the walk on the pedestrian bridge from Southbank to Botanic Gardens and, if you can't quite make it across without a coffee, then there is a lovely young man with a coffee cart on the bridge!
The city was so clean and modern. Anyone at any of the shops were friendly and had great hospitality. The food was good anywhere you went. There's so much to do in Brisbane or right outside of Brisbane. Queensland is the best!
Great to stay a few days there if you are visiting Queensland - good for jogging, cycling and seeing museums, and with many lovely restaurants too.
We stayed at the Hillcrest Guest House, beautifullly refurbished old Queenslander, which included great breakfast options! We walked into town and checked out the historical landmarks, fishing off the netty at the end of Main Street, walked to the Museum which was great, the Grassy Hill lookout was a great workout hill climb and the sunset from there looking back to the Endeavour was amazing. So many places to explore in the 4wd, and the drive home along the Bloomfield track through the Daintree was stunningly beautiful
It's a small boutique town nestled between the sea and the rainforest. Close to all the world heritage sites people come to far north Queensland to see. It's pretty touristy though and the main street is basically full of hotels and shops. Still there is a laidback and relaxed feel and charm to the place.
Quiet and friendly, Rockhampton is still a big country town. The river walks are delightful but need further development. Close to the coast and historical Mt Morgan. Mt Archer and the botanical gardens are worth a visit. The best steaks in Central Queensland.
The Gold Coast is beautiful. The beaches are amazing. We stayed at main beach. The tragic was light. Wasn’t busy like the other parts of Queensland. Highly recommend
Airlie, like so many other tourist towns in Queensland is clearly suffering from a severe decline in tourism. Cafes closed, restaurants and shops gone. The hub of the marina with modernized facilities is great though. No uber yet apparently although we walked everywhere so for us it didn’t matter. The boardwalk joins the two ends of town with an easy stroll past the lagoon which is lovely. Shute harbour has gone largely due the damage caused by Debbie, which clearly caused a lot more damage than most of us realize.
Bargara
Bargara is one of a chain of beach resorts that seem to be little known outside Queensland. They have an excellent climate. particularly for a winter holiday. Pacific Sun provides the perfect 'home from home' for an extended stay. It provides all the advantages and facilities of holiday apartments at a lower cost. The new young owners provide a warm welcome, and their stated aim of adding further updates and facilities promises an even more attractive option. I will certainly return.
Brisbane
Fun, social atmosphere in a Queenslander style building. Good hostel for long termers and short term visitors. Plenty of space and large communal areas. Clean, hygienic bathrooms and a large newly renovated kitchen. SWTS is really well managed by lovely staff and an owner that truly cares. The location is also excellent, situated just off the iconic Boundary street in West end. So many good things to do in the area like parks, markets, and walks. Couldn’t recommend this hostel enough
Brisbane Central Business District, Brisbane
YHA has the best amenities to entertain guests - chic cafe, spacious lobby area, humongous & open dining areas, large & fully stocked kitchen, a dozen refrigerators, a rooftop pool & bar with the best view of the City & River, what more could one ask!!!! The cleanest hostel I’ve ever stayed in Queensland!!! The best part - amazing staff - from the reception to the kitchen to housekeeping to the cafe!!!! Thank you soooo much for the best stay in Queensland!!!!
Ipswich
Great place to stay for a night or two if you're doing events at Queensland raceway. The studio apartment is great for a solo or couple, plenty of room and enough amenities, bathroom is decently sized as well. Had no issues with parking, staff were very kind and gave me clear directions to my room, also got a free macron so definitely not complaining.
Rockhampton
Lovely, large, clean hotel room in a quiet location. Off street parking. Owner met us on-site to hand over keys after our late booking (booked 30mins prior to arrival). There is a cafe downstairs but we left before it opened. Hotel a short 5min walk away for an evening meal plus several Asian restaurants. Surrounded by old Queenslander homes.
Townsville
It was a really nice old bed & breakfast. We got their Best breakfast during our stay in Australia. Also we got perfect Informations regarding our visit of Magnetic Island and they drove us to the ferry. On top they Spike czech and my wife could talk in her mother tongue. So far our best accomodation in Queensland.
Townsville
As profoundly deaf, I used my visual perception and I could not see any fault at all - everything was there as expected upon arrival. Once again thanks for your excellent hospitality. I may come again if NRLW would arrange AMPOL Women State of Origin at Queensland County Bank Stadium next year without hesitation.
Alexandra Headland
Great place for a break away in the sunshine. Lovely comforable apartment with views of Alexandra Headland and beaches further up the coast ... added bonus of there being a nippers surf lifesaver Saturday carnival on for us to watch. You can't beat the beaches of Queensland, just amazingly beautiful.
Oak Beach
Fantastic 2 night stay in Oak Beach. Richard couldn’t have been friendlier and he and Marti have thought of every little detail to make your stay the best possible. Beautiful setting, spotless apartment and a good location to base yourself for far North Queensland (with a car).
Cape Tribulation
Beautiful tropical location, outdoor restaurant, beach is spectacular even if you can't swim because os crocs and stingers. The Daintree region is a must when visiting Queensland. The room was spacious with several beds and the hotel supplied a crib for my granddaughter.
South Brisbane, Brisbane
The staff were very helpful and the apartments were clean and well-appointed. The hotel's in a great location – it's a ten-minute walk from the Queensland Children's Hospital (where our son was being treated), South Bank train station, and shops.
Palm Cove
The Drift Palm Cove resort is a lovely property with one of the nicest freeform swimming pools in North Queensland. The resort is perfectly located to the south end of the Palm Cove beach esplanade. We will be returning.
Golden Beach, Caloundra
Great location, nice to have pool and breakfast included, we were able to use the restaurant for dinner and breakfast. nice room, comfortable bed. Great spot to visit the australia zoo and the queensland air museum.
Bongaree
Very Happy with the Apartment. Parking just a little tight when parking a bigger car. Fan in ensuite didn't seem to work too well. Would certainly book these apartments again, next time I am in Queensland.
Gladstone
Great location. Very clean. Helpful staff. Very comfortable apartment. Great value for money. Gladstone and the beach areas are hidden gems of central Queensland. Will definitely be coming back.
Bundaberg
It was a nice simple hotel room, everything I've come to expect from central Queensland to be honest, nice facilities, nice bed, was a nice get away for my Partner son and
Port Douglas
Great location and beautiful, Queenslander style rooms. Surprisingly quiet, considering the hotel is right in the centre of town and surrounded by pubs and restaurants.
Port Douglas
The Queenslander is well situated in a quiet road, and is an easy easy walk away from Macrossan Street. The apartment was spacious, and the bed was comfortable.
Convenient location in Brisbane to go and see a show. I love the detail and art works that the Hotel has used in its design to honour all things Queensland.
Goondiwindi
Love the location... right in the main street with great meals available from the Queensland Hotel which is very close. Very clean with comfortable bed.
